Top 5 Music Moments of 2013

This is not a list for the best songs.

Every one of us has experienced that moment. Everyone of us has been to that stage. That orgasmic point in a song, not the whole track, where you just forget about the rest of the world and completely immerse yourself in that particular moment, that short period that may last for not more than 2-5 seconds. Actually, those moments are sometimes so good that whenever you play a song, you listen it just for that particular piece and wait eagerly for it to come. When it finally comes and falls on your ears, all you can think of is to close your eyes and dance to the tune with a faint smile on your face or just go bat-shit crazy and air guitar/air drum the fuck out of yourself. The songs themselves may not be the best song on the album, but they have something that other songs don't.

There are just so many songs that could have made the list. Finally, I thought to short the list down to just 10 songs but then again, it was getting really hard to leave some songs out so I have rpepared this list of just 5 songs.
Here are some music moments that blew my mind this year.

5. Do I Wanna Know?

Remember that opening guitar riff and the drum beat. Well, the first time I heard the live version back in May, I knew then and there that this was going to be one of the biggest songs of this year. Though the whole album packs some surreal music moments (that opening countdown in No. 1 Party Anthem or the outro of I Wanna Be Yours),  this particular piece tops the rest since it defines the whole album and the new era for Monkeys.

4. On Sight

Now this is it! Starting at 1:17 , it lasts for exactly 13 seconds and is so heavenly beautiful that you are always left for wanting something more. Feels like a church choir, this piece of music is like an oasis of calmness in a desert of chaos created in this song. The album packs some other golden moments like the second verse from New Slaves, the guitar riff on Hold My Liquor or the whole Bound 2. Once again, Mr. West is a genius!

3. Giorgio by Moroder

Random Access Memories is an amazing album. The opening tune of Get Lucky or the guitar solo in Instant Crush. The way Daft Punk have used guitars and drums with their traditional electro/dance music is something to admire. But the highlight of this album is the conversation piece of Giorgio. I'm talking about the point after 1:32 where all you hear is just Giorgio's voice and a tapping beat. Really, this is the "sound of the future"!

2. Call It Fate, Call It Karma

'Comedown Machine' is full of awesome music moments. That opening guitar riff on Tap Out, the lyrics " What kind of asshole drives a lotus" on Welcome To Japan or the outer space atmosphere created in Chances. But nothing comes close to the falsetto of Julian in the chorus of Call It Fate, Call It Karma. It feels like a song from a vintage Hollywood movie and I dance along to this tune in some craziest ways imaginable!

1. Awful Sound

There's this sense of upcoming doom right from the beginning of the song which explodes in the outro with "la-la-la's". I will never forget the first time I heard this song. As if I knew already that I was about to come across something exceptional and massive. The album has some dreamy and epic moments like those french vocals in Reflektor and Joan of Arc or the sick bassline in We Exist. The closest thing to this music moment could be the haunting outro of Porno.

Here are some other songs that I think have those cracking music moments that blew me away for some reason or the other:

1. Demons by The National : there's this point in the song where after the imminent build up of a tension, the singer reaches a breaking point and frustrates out "fuck" in a such a subtle manner, it always amazes me.

2. Before Your Very Own Eyes by Amok : Thom's voice is beautiful than ever. The funky guitar riff in the background is bounding enough to make anyone dance like a hipster.

3. The Vampire of Time and Money by QOTSA : That guitar breakdown by the halfway of the song is brilliant!

Here is the list of some of the songs that I thought were the highlights of 2013. Enjoy!

That little bit in a song. Not the whole track, but a little something that gives you thrills.
