24

Apparently I'm turning 24 in an hour. With an exam on my head tomorrow, I have found a new way of procrastinating. So why not make a post about usage of being 24 in music world?! I guess lots of artists have mentioned 18(or basically late teens) in their lyrics every now and then, but not that many have used 24( you don't say!). Last year I posted "What's My Age Again?" by blink-182 on my facebook page on my birthday. But I had no song in my mind for being 24. Well, there's this one good song by The Maine but it's a bit too sad for such a happy occasion. So I started looking online for a nice happy song about turning 24 (you don't turn 24 every year, right ?! ). Contrary to my expectations, I actually found a few songs ( some of them being quite good). So here is this post about being 24 along with some "nerdy" interpretation of using 24 in different songs. Here I won't mention the songs with just 24 in their titles( apparently there are shitload of songs with 24 in them or a reference to 24, guess what else is 24? , yeah, hours in a day etc.). Maybe I'll be still missing some songs but I guess this much should do for now ;)

Album Review 3: Comedown Machine- The Strokes

So the first in this series is the latest installment from The Strokes that came out in the early half of the last year, 'Comedown Machine'. If you Google reviews for this album, you're highly unlikely to find a positive review. This album is a turning point in my music listening habit.I started out with 'Tap Out' at around the same time when I first heard 'Instant Crush' from Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories' and I felt like both the songs were from the same band, catchy, dance-y and really fresh. I don't want to talk about how I resisted myself from giving the whole album a try as I was quite 'busy' discovering Arctic Monkeys during the summer of 2013 and at that point The Strokes were just another post-punk band from England who made music similar to early Arctic Monkeys or The Libertines ( yeah, it's a shame, I know now how wrong I was!) to me .
I don't remember when and how I stumbled upon 'Call It Fate, Call It Karma', somewhere around July of 2013. I was totally surprised by the sound of this song. It was something so different, something I had never expected from this band ( even though I had no fucking clue about this band's music. See, how much an image of a band can keep you in dark for such a long time!) . This song was on repeat for most part of the late long summer evenings of 2013 (oh, how I remember those long never ending Finnish summer evenings were filled by this nostalgic and haunting piece of Julian's falsetto). But even till then, I was not fully getting the album. I had tried some songs like 'All The Time', 'One Way Trigger' & '80's Comedown Machine' with not much effect.

11: If I Have To Choose Between Myself and You, I'll Always Choose To Be Leonardo DiCaprio!

God, I need to escape through a hole, will you show me
Cause I've been living between people, but still feeling lonely
And I've been trying to catch her in thrift stores and same shops
Oh God! Why don't you make me a boat and let me sail in my teardrops
She called me asshole, I called her fucktard
I'm a looser when it comes to game of two hearts
What's art?
Don't start!

10: Dreaming on My Bed, I'm Travelling to Stars so Far, at Light Speed!

I touched the sky
I wonder if it sounds strange but I don't know why
I told a truth and then a lie
I need you still & I don't know why
I sailed to the moon
I looked at you to my surprise
I slipped too soon
Slipped for forever from your eyes

9: Automatic Dreams/ Love Problematic

Her evening eyes,
My heavy heart skips a beat
And with her sunset smile
I loose my mind mischief.
What I feel, it feels so strange
In many ways, it's hard to explain.
Falling fast , I'm falling free
Falling in love, so carefree
See I'm defying gravity!
What's in future, I don't wanna know
Let me dream tonight & I'll take it slow.

8: Conversations with a Mirror

Sometimes when I get alone,
I face the mirror and talk
Reminiscing of days long gone
Damn! Life's a long slow walk
And I tried to run, runaway far away
Wait! Stop! Watch!
See, things these pity people got to say!

7: Am I The Only One Who Knows That We All Are Going To Die Alone?

She said,"why don't you come back in my bed"
I said," baby, you know it's all in your head"
"I don't know what I want but I want it all"
She said,"but you never reply whenever I call"
"I just wanna have fun & live my life."
"Don't care 'bout the music, just feel the vibe"
I said," I can't go on like this but I can't go on without you too"
"If only you realize how strange I feel about us two"
She said,"fine, just kiss me goodnight and let's go to sleep"
I said," darling, my heart is for you and forever yours to keep"
" and every now and then, it breaks apart and starts to weep"
She said," baby, don't talk like that. It turns me off"
I said,"OK", trying hard not to laugh
I told myself,"I need sometime alone to think about you & me."
"To live without you, just me"
"I need to slow down & move out of town someday
I guess I don't love you like I did yesterday".
"I can't control what's not in my hand.
But I'm afraid darling, you'll never understand".

6: I'm Like a Convict About to Confess a Crime I Never Committed

Of course I know you're beautiful
Of course I wish I spend all my time with you
But if I really like you, I'm not really sure.
I don't wanna admit it. I don't wanna really show.
Of course I may like you, I just don't really know
And somewhere I'll love you, my love is so pure
Like a poison it kills me and I need no cure
Just to hold you by the hand, I can ask of nothing more
It feels like heaven, like I've been here before
Like an ocean at a midnight under the silver moon
I'm fine by staring at your reflection standing at the shore
Time is all I need and I wanna take it slow
Into your mystic river, is where my heart  flows
I'm waiting at it's end, I want you to hurry to the end
And of course I love you baby, but I can never be your friend
And of course I want to be yours, being yours is all I want
And I want you all, that's all I want
I want to be all yours but I just really can't
There's an evil inside me, you will never understand
Though I need you like a cloud over my barren land
I want you as my lover but I can never be your friend
And of course I love you, I love you more than I can
So runaway from me baby, runaway from this evil man

5: 'And She Wrote It Out In Letraset,"No, You Can't Call Me Her Name",

Last night, the stars were bright
It felt so great, it felt so right
I looked for you, you were out of sight
She looked like you, standing by my side
I swear she looked like you, just a little tight
I asked her if she could come in light
I went for a kiss, she said," man you wanna start a fight?"
" my boyfriend's here, just back off my dear"
" you look pretty drunk, am I clear?"
But I still took few hits, it felt like bliss
And now my head won't turn, with face all red
Trying to remember, lying in my bed
It happened once and then many times
And every time I say these lines
"When you left, I wept for you.
All my love , I kept for you.
I won't forget you, at least I'll try.
Until then, you'll just make me cry.
Somethings are meant to never say
I'll get over, maybe someday."

4: If Only You Were Smarter, You Would Have Had It The Very First Time

Will I die?
If you'll just leave me one day
I know I'll cry
Searching for the words that I had to say
Am I too shy?
When you smile & look away
Please tell me why
Everything's never meant to be okay ?

3: A Lovesong Without Love (My first Rap-song)

Every night when I fall asleep
Your lovely face is all I need
Your lovely face is what I dream
It's the only thing that I seek
Playing Monkeys on repeat
Close my eyes and then I weep
Falling down, down so deep
My broken heart is yours to keep
Why won't you answer, I beg you please

2: The Only Broken-Hearted Looser You'll Ever Need

This could be my most cheesy poems of all. Haha, nevermind, I just felt writing something and it all turned out to be really really cheesy :P Sorry!

1: All I Do Is Piss You Off, All You Do Is Disappoint Me

So here it all starts. I have collected some pieces together from my early work which I was finding hard to categorize. Though each piece is complete in it's own sense, but something about them still felt incomplete, like they were small pieces of a big puzzle. So here I have just put them together under individual headings:

I Scribble Some Stuff Sometimes

Surprise! Seems like a voice that never sings, has also a mind that never thinks. Well, I think a lot but never used to put them down in a proper format what people recognize as poems or songs. It all started around a year back, I realized that I was forgetting a lot of stuff and I began writing them on my phone. Never had I thought that I would eventually make them public and put them together on my blog for people to read. But I guess, this was how it was meant to be.

Lyrics mean a lot to me. I need to know what a song is saying and what it actually means. I love all those small rhymes, little melodies and minor details that some lyrical geniuses of our generation, wit fully use in their songs.

I started paying more attention to the lyrics back when  I used to listen to a  lot of Fall Out Boy. Pete Wentz has a unique way of writing corny, cheesy and clever lyrics. Those over the top pun intended lines and super long song titles used to always amaze me and blow me away. As I grew, I discovered some more genius along the way. Jesse Lacey of Brand New, Thom Yorke of Radiohead and Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes are the names that I always look up to when I have to listen some stunning and brilliant lyrics. The way these guys combine the theme of a person's love for his lover and his love for that supreme power is quite astounding. I think that this field of song writing is the best as it uplifts itself from the same old crap of people writing about their pity life and search for answers that actually mean something. In past one year, I have discovered even a lot more of pure perfection. Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Kanye West and Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys are some names that have aspired me a lot. Specially, this guy, Alex freakin' Turner! I think that he is one of the best poets of our modern age!

From now on, I'll be posting some of my poems/songs/lyrics on this blog. Most of the posts will be just a random collection of rhymes since most of the times my only focus while writing is to make different words rhyme. The only problem with the written form is that it puts a limit to my rhyming boundary because( if you listen to rap songs properly, you'll see) one can make a lot more words rhyme with their way of pronouncing certain words. I like songs with seriously long titles ( what else do you expect from a fan of Fall Out Boy, Brand New & Arctic Monkeys! ), so that will explain my song titles. It's something that I'll do for some fun and hopefully you'll like it! If you like it then feel free to comment, if you don't then please don't waste your time in criticizing! Haha,, just kidding, all your comments are welcome. Let's see, how it goes ;)

I will be reviewing a lot more albums now !

This post starts a new era for me and this blog. I have finally decided to take this opportunity of having a blog and review some of my favorite albums. This idea came to my mind when I was going through YouTube looking for reviews of an album (Yeezus) and I found that almost every review was posted around the same time as that of the release of the album and that called for a mind boggling question in my mind. It's beyond my comprehensive power how critics review and rate within first few days of the release of an album. For me, it takes at least around five hundred listens to make my mind if I really like a particular album. I need to absorb these songs under my skin and only then I can say if they deserve my praise. I have tried to review my albums in a new light, in ways that I find myself intriguing and hopefully, you readers will feel the same. My reviews will be more about how discovered particular songs and enjoyed them. Those little strange and hard to believe stories that are behind almost every songs that I love. In this way, I think you will get a better idea of how and why I like a random piece of music or a specific note in a song, as this makes up for a detailed insight of a reviewer's mindset when he or she rates a certain song. Hope you enjoy them.

Lou Reed reviewing Kanye West's Yeezus

I'm loving Yeezus nowadays. I first came across this record somewhere around last year. Black Skinhead was the only song that I would play on repeat during my workout sessions. Somewhere around the latter half of the year, I gave the whole album a try. I liked a few songs a lot but most of the album seemed below average to me. But I don't know why, I just kept coming back to this record for strange unknown reasons. For last one month, I have been listening to a lot of Mr. West, discovering his records and all his works. Watching his interviews and knowing more about him is some other level of fun. I can safely say now that Yeezus is one of the best albums ever! Not just because of the music on it, but the influence it had on me which made me discover this artist and see him in a new light. Soon I will be writing a full length review of this record myself(hopefully), but here is one article that I read today ( it's funny how I stumble upon such articles) . Here is Lou Reed reviewing this album . What I love about his review is that it's not your typical critic's review. Here is a fan who just loves this music and he is sharing a LOT of my views on this album. Maybe you will like it too ;)  .
